Stevie Wonder ~ “Superstition”

Stevie Wonder’s birthday was May 13, so he’s been popping into my algo a bit more the last few days. Honestly? He’s easily one of my favorite artists of all time. The songs fit ~ every situation, every mood.

So, how awesome is Stevie?

Besides the whole being signed to Motown at age 11 thing, he had a run in the ’70s that’s… rare air.

Music of My Mind. Talking Book. Innervisions. Fulfillingness’ First Finale. Songs in the Key of Life.
Five albums. Five near-perfect albums. In five years.
Who even does that?

But what makes Stevie special isn’t just the voice or the melodies (though, come on). It’s that he sees the world clearly ~ love, injustice, beauty, heartbreak, absurdity. All of it. Wrapped in grooves that slap and lyrics that land.

And if I knew nothing else about Stevie, the video above of him playing “Superstition” on Sesame Street would be enough.

Fifty+ years ago and still electric.
Until you see the shots of the kids jammin’, you could swear he was playing a variety show or a late-night set.
